Photo Retouching

Before Retouching:

After retouching:

The key here is to not over-do it and go into plastic or uncanny valley territory. There’s subtle layers and techniques in photoshop to achieve that natural yet slightly enhanced look. This week, I’ve been practicing that a lot on photos I took at work for a headshots event.

After working in the film industry, I tend to put a lot of emphasis on not needing a lot of retouching due to the original photo looking solid to begin with. Specific colors, textures, and patterns photograph better than others. Things like HD makeup save a lot of time with photo retouching by making the initial image already look smoothed out. On a deeper level, simply trying to avoid processed foods goes a long way towards having clear skin even before the makeup goes on, and finding something to laugh at constantly is probably the best way to look healthy overall. I make a point of finding things to laugh at every day, even it’s absurd, dark, or inappropriate.

Removing those under eye circles and the stray eye shadow in Photoshop happened before I made a computer wallpaper reminding me to “not overthink it” and remember that “less is more.”
