Knocking Out Small Text vs Overprinting Small Text

Although the example of small text at the top has an effect that’s visually interesting, it is not nearly as legible as the example on the bottom. It feels “busy” and chaotic. When the intention is to convey information efficiently, the best approach is to keep things simple and overprint the small text to avoid any issues with misregistration making the text less legible.
