
This is an example of the visual difference between the spread vs choke approaches to “knocking out” the background and layering text over it. In the example on the left, the writing looks bold, but also a little less crisp and legible than the text on the right. When there’s small text on a high-contrast background, the approach to take is choking the background (unless the text is just overprinted and there’s no “knocking out”).
